Works by Mason (May) Hall, B.F.A. New Media and Painting, are showcased during the exhibit Bifurcation.
Mason (May) is a Salisbury native and a senior at Salisbury University, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in New Media and Painting. Having been surrounded by artistic influences from an early age, Mason has dedicated much of their life to creative pursuits. During high school, they discovered a strong connection to digital art, which quickly became their primary focus. In college, the opportunity to explore traditional media broadened their practice—yet painting, especially with oil, remains the one form that breaks through the digital noise. Through vibrant color palettes and expressive brushwork, Mason seeks to uncover deeper meanings rooted in personal introspection and inner conflict.
Artist Statement
My work is shaped by personal experiences and the cultural influences that surround me— particularly video games, habitual behaviors, and the ways I’ve learned to cope with loss and impermanence. Confronting mortality has deepened my awareness of life’s transience and has motivated me to explore how hardship can also lead to renewal.
In this body of work, I examine the concept of the seven deadly sins as symbolic reflections of human emotion and transformation. Rather than portraying them as purely destructive forces, I reinterpret them as expressions of vulnerability and the ongoing effort to achieve balance and self-awareness.
Through thick applications of paint and a vibrant, emotionally charged palette, I merge introspection with material intensity. Each painting represents an evolving dialogue between struggle and acceptance—revealing how the very flaws and desires that challenge us can also lead to growth and self-realization.
