Yes! All new first year and transfer students (beginning in the fall) must participate in both Sea Gull Start-Up and First Flight. All first year and transfer students (beginning in the spring) must participate in January Orientation.

All costs are covered through the New Student Orientation Fee, a one-time fee all new students pay as part of their tuition and fees. All new students starting in fall or spring will have the fee added to their first semester bill. 

There are a few different options! You can take a virtual tour on your own or visit us during our scheduled open houses, or SU Info Session & Campus tour. More information and links to register can be found on our visit campus page.

A one-day, on-campus event to help students learn about academic expectations, identify resources and information specific to majors and course selection, and find out about resources available at SU to support success. There are both family and student sessions

Sea Gull Start-Up is a full day program. Check-in begin at 8am, the program starts around 9:15 am, and the end ends between 3:00pm and 4:00pm. 

Sea Gull Start-Up is held in person on campus. Check-in will be in the Guerrieri Academic Commons. Information regarding parking will be communicated to students and their families prior to the program.

A survey will be available in April through the Future Sea Gull Portal where students will need to complete and sign up for their Sea Gull Start Up date.

All students are automatically put on the roster to attend First Flight and will just need to sign in at the orientation table after their move-in time for their residence hall

If you are unable to attend your originally scheduled Sea Gull Start-Up session, please use the Reschedule Request Form from your confirmation email to request a different date. While we will do our best to accommodate your request, space in each session is limited and changes are not guaranteed. Our team will review your submission and follow up with next steps.

There are 3 orientations that are mandatory for all new students to attend.

• Sea Gull Start-Up occurs in June and will run for 2 weeks. Your student will need to select one date out of the 2 weeks to attend. Each day will be a full day of activities from about 9-4
• First Flight occurs the 4 days before school begins in August. After moving in your student will sign into orientation and begin First Flight Thursday evening up until Sunday
• January Orientation occurs the two days before classes begin in January. January Orientation is required for all new students beginning in the spring semester. 

Two family members/guests are allowed per student. Please note that families and guests are separated from new students during most of the day participating in our Family/Guest Orientation Program. It is strongly encouraged not to bring a friend with you, as they will not be able to spend the day in your orientation group with you. 

To request reasonable accommodations for you or your guests during Sea Gull Start-Up related to disability, mobility, or interpreting and translation services please fill out the Reasonable Accommodation Request Form shared in your Sea Gull Start-Up Confirmation Email. Please make all requests a minimum of 14 days before your scheduled Sea Gull Start-Up date. 

New students have the option to change their major on their Orientation Registration & Survey. Academic Advising will build your first semester schedule based on the major listed on your orientation survey. If you decide to change your major after completing your survey, please contact Academic Advising (advising@salisbury.edu).

At the end of your Orientation Registration & Survey you will see the available Sea Gull Start-Up dates for your major. We have limited availability each day based on academic majors. If you do not need a date listed, that session is full. Additionally, we have separate transfer and first year dates. You cannot attend a date that is not designed for your student type. 

Yes! Open Houses and Admitted Student Days are great events, and we're glad you participated in those! Our Orientation programs are different, and are required for all new students.

The Academic Advising Team will use all of the information provided on your Orientation Registration & Survey in your Future Sea Gull Portal to build your first semester schedule. When you attend your Sea Gull Start-Up (for new fall students) or January Orientation (for new spring students) you will have the opportunity to meet with an Academic Advising Team member, who will share your schedule with you. Please note: schedules are constantly in flux all summer long as the team builds all new student schedules. Your final schedule will be shared during your academic avising time during orientation. 

Do your best to estimate what you expect you will get on your AP Exams, and make sure final scores are sent as soon as they become available. If you scores change any of your classes for your first semester you will be able to make changes with your academic advisor.

The full schedule for Sea Gull Start-Up, First Flight, and January Orientation will be emailed to new students two weeks before their scheduled date/program start date. The schedule will provide all details, keep an eye on your email.
