529 and College Savings Plans

Each 529 or college savings plan may require different information from the account holder when requesting a distribution. Please contact your specific plan provider to confirm their requirements.

Some plans may ask for documentation of billed charges, which can be found on the student account page. If needed, the official Cost of Attendance—calculated by the Office of Financial Aid—is available on the Financial Aid “Cost of Attendance” page. Billing statements must be issued to your plan provider in their original form and cannot be modified prior to submission to a 529 provider.

When submitting payments or documentation from your college savings plan, be sure to include the student’s name and ID number.

For questions related to your specific 529 plan, please contact your plan provider directly. Questions about outside or private scholarship payments should be directed to the Cashiers Office.

To avoid late fees, request your payment well in advance so funds are received before the bill due date. If your payment will not arrive on time, contact the Cashiers Office to request a notation of the 529 payment to avoid one late fee.

Payments

Many 529 college savings plans now offer digital distribution options (e.g.Flywire), which provide faster processing and real-time tracking. When requesting a withdrawal, check whether a digital or electronic payment option is available. If so, we strongly recommend using it instead of a mailed check, as it ensures quicker delivery and proper routing within the university.

If your plan does not offer digital distribution and a paper check is required, please include the student’s name and ID number and mail it to:
