Students secure their own internship or develop a practical learning project

Explore a potential career path or goals

Credits:

Three or Four (meets CADR major requirement)
Students have the option to complete up to Eight credits of internship
Course is Pass/Fail
Can be taken during Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer (10-week format)
Must secure internship site or have practicum project approved prior to registering for course

Course Requirements
- Three-Credit Courses: 135 Hours at an approved site (or project)
- Four-Credit Courses: 180 Hours at an approved site (or project)
- Weekly update (typically a journal)
- Monthly status meeting
- Reflection or research paper
- Junior or senior standing is recommended
General Timeline
- Locate, apply and secure internship
- Complete CADR learning contract and submit to CADR Department
- CADR Department issues permission number to register for course
- Student registers for course
Example Timelines (by type)
- National governmental internship (e.g. FBI, State Department, embassies, NASA, U.S. Peace Institute)
  - One Year or more to secure
  - Typically requires extensive background check(s) up to and including fingerprinting and multi-tier vetting process
- Local or State government (e.g. city of Salisbury, state or local government representatives and offices)
  - Up to Six Months to secure
  - Can require fingerprinting and background check
- Local school systems:
  - Between One-Eight Weeks to secure
  - Requires fingerprinting and background check
- Non-profit or non-governmental agency:
  - Between One-Eight Weeks to secure
  - Requirements vary between organization
  - Some intensive volunteer opportunities can be approved on a case-by-case basis

- Local business:
  - Between One-Eight Weeks to secure
  - Requirements vary between organization
